I am sharing information that I received from Printmakers, Inc.; one of our sponsors.
Clay Blackmore
How to Photograph Everyone
Fun and engaging, Blackmore has created a new program for those who wish to learn how to create great portraits of everyone.
Consistent results are at the heart of this new program with an emphasis on posting, lighting, composition, and expression. Working outdoors or in the studio Blackmore will show you how to harness the light and create beautiful images of men, women, children, families, brides, individuals, couples, and groups.
“Confidence is the key”, explains Blackmore. “I can help anyone gain a better understanding of what people like and don’t like in their portraits. We simply concentrate on a few simple thoughts each time we get behind our camera. Once we have the techniques memorized our hands can form unbreakable patterns allowing us to work from the heart.”
Blackmore is one of the most passionate photographers working in the country today. One of Canon’s Explorers of Light and a member of the elite Cameracraftsmen group, his love for this industry is evident in every image he creates and his lectures have been embraced worldwide.

If you like to review the presentation I made this evening, February 23, 2010, you will find the information on my site. I recommend that you watch the slide show one slide at a time with full effects, showing the transition from one state to the next. The PDF files are for convenience and for printing if you like. You may ask questions if you have any; if you do, please do so where the post is on my site so the questions and answers have context and accumulated information.
An Oldie Made Available Again

I moderated two panel discussions on the meaning, practice, and art of photography in the past. One of them was recorded and a streaming video of the program was available. However, in between server transfer and PSRI Web platform change, that video never made it to the new site. Now, through the use of newer technology and services that episode of the discussions on photography is available here again. It is over an hour long, and unlike most (if not all) programs we have had, there are no photographs shown, no PowerPoint slides, nor techniques; just conversation among four people with varying backgrounds and interests in photography.
Here it is, Conversations on Photography.

Hosted by Nashoba Valley Photo Club
Sponsored by Sigma and Hunt’s Photo and Video
Saturday, February 6, 2010 1 to 4 PM
Seminar Info: http://nvpcweb.org/NVPC_Seminar.htm
Robert is a BBC/Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition award winner and the American Bald Eagle Foundation Photographer of the Year for 2008. A full time professional photographer and instructor for more than ten years, he has led photography workshop tours, year round, across the U.S. and internationally. He also hosts post production, image optimization workshops and has written tutorial CDs with unique Photoshop techniques. He is based in Florida and California and uses Nikon cameras and Nikon and Sigma lenses.
See Robert’s wonderful images at his website: http://robertotoolephotography.com
Dennis Goulet comments: Robert O’Toole is a skilled photography workshop leader and conducts tours to the best, often unique, locations. His Photoshop skills led to a series of advanced, but simplified, Photoshop techniques available on CD, and he teaches these techniques to workshop participants. The first part of his presentation shows how to make the best images possible in the field and the final part of his program will demonstrate some of these techniques to improve those captured images.
PSRI Magazine is Out

The PSReye Focus magazine, featuring the photographs and articles of PSRI members and Providence College photography students is available for purchase. It is the result of the hard work of two Providence College students, Emma Hansen and John Vaghi with contributions from many photographers and the keen and critical eye of the editorial board of the magazine. It is published on an on-demand printing platform and anyone can purchase as many copies as they want. The photographic contributions are great so is the print and paper quality. It should make an excellent Christmas gift or stocking stuffer for the photo buff and art lovers.
Order it directly from MagCloud. The holiday price until January 1, 2010 is $12.50 plus shipping. After that the price will go up to $15.00 plus shipping. Shipping charges depend on the delivery speed, the lowest cost option at $1.40 per magazine arrives within about one week. MagCloud accepts PayPal or credit card payments and you will receive your copy in your mailbox within about one week although they indicate 1-2 weeks.
We hope that you enjoy the magazine, which is most likely a camera club first.

Don’t Bruise the Pixels

On January 20, 2009, Cemal Ekin made a presentation titled “Don’t Bruise the Pixels: Nondestrucitve Editing Strategies in Photoshop”. The main message was to shoot RAW, use a large color space when importing to Photoshop, and do not push pixels around to edit the image. Layers, blend modes, and blend if sliders offer extremely powerful image editing with exit strategies. You can find the presentation slides on his site but not the actual Photoshop work.
