Last year the premier performance of the ballet Orchis brought to fruition an idea of PSRI member A. Cemal Ekin; a fusion of photography, music and dance. The ballet was created based on Cemal’s photographs of dried orchids that gave him the impression of ballet dancer poses. Luckily, Misha Djuric, Festival Ballet Providence Artistic Director agreed and commissioned Victor Plotnikov to choreograph a ballet inspired by Cemal’s images and Sonya Belouseva to create an original score. The ballet performance features Cemal’s images projected on a 15×20 foot screen suspended above the dancers. The resulting performance captured the hearts of the audiences last year and it will touch your sensibilities this year again.
Orchis is scheduled to be performed as one of three pieces in Boundless Plotnikov at the Vets Auditorium on March 14, 15 & 16, 2014.
The Festival Ballet Providence created a discount code VIKTOR18 for Cemal to share with you. It will give a modest 18% discount on the ticket prices.
