Fudgifying: being creative with, or otherwise manipulating, an original image (no chocolate involved).
My purist film photographer fiancé,’ Mike Di Stefano, will look at what I’m doing to my image and say “You’re fudgifying again!” Yes, yes, I am, because it’s fun!
Here is an original image.
Not so great! But, it brings back wonderful memories of my time spent with my now 19 year old granddaughter. I loved the light on her beautiful wavy hair. One day I pulled it out from the “Grandchildren” folder, stared at it, and wondered what I could do, how can I be creative with it. So, after a few tries of mirror imaging (not her face-that was too weird even for me), I came up with this image.
Mirror images create one-of-a-kind whimsical creature faces in the center of an image! Then, thinking that sometimes we get hung up on the original color of an image, I decided to try a monochrome version. This is it!
So, this is my suggestion: Fudgify, be creative, play with potential new versions of an image, allow yourself to color outside the box!
Instructions for mirror imaging:
- Open an image in Photoshop
- Select All, Edit, Copy
- Decide which side you would like to mirror
- Go to Image tab
- Go to Canvas size
- Anchor edge opposite side to mirror
- Double either the width or height, depending on side you want to mirror
- Click OK
- Go to Edit, Paste (Puts another image in on another layer
- Go to Edit, Transform, Flip Horizontal
- Go to the Move tool, drag image into the blank area
- Once image is lined up, go to Layer, Flatten image
- Done
- Adjust, play with exposure or any other post processing that makes you happy!!

It came out great Noreen. So creative. I remember when I first joined the club, Mike talked about thinking outside the box and it always stayed with me.
