Mentor night at the Photographic Society of Rhode Island is when experienced and trusted advisers in the club, teach other members who are eager to make their images better. The dictionary uses the word adviser in the definition of mentor, but at PSRI they go a step farther. Each mentor is an artist in their own right that creates photography using lightroom, photoshop, and the finishing touches for prints – matting.
We are blessed to have such diverse talent answering the question – “How can we make this image better?” At this time the mentor leads the discussion, but all present may add their ideas. Mentoring Night is about sharing knowledge, understanding and the fun of creating a great image. All involved enjoy the experience.
Marion Faria is quick to notice a photographerʼs strengths and weaknesses and how to improve them. Her candor and caring words encourage by showing where to go from here.
Cemal Ekin may ask, “What does this picture say to you?” Then use his expertise in photoshop and lightroom, as well as his artistic eye for detail, to help you finish the story.
Phyllis Pascazio has a shy smile in front of the camera, but behind it she speaks up with her helpful ideas and listens to those around her as they discuss an image discovering which way to take the improvements.
Mary Dooʼs humor and carefree fun brings a lightheartedness to creating the best image possible. She will find an improvement to bring a smile to the image makerʼs face, making photography more fun.
Mike Distefano uses his understanding of matting to bring the viewer into your image with the use of the right color for that print. The right matte can bring a photo to the next level complimenting and bring out aspects of the image to be enjoyed.
Thank you to all the mentors that are will to share their time and knowledge. Everyone had a great time and we all learned a few new tips and tricks to help our photography!
A special thank you to PSRI Vice President Noreen Berthiaume for organizing this event!
Thank you to club member Leslie Atsales for the images and the write up!
I really need to get myself to a meeting! The knowledge you all share must be amazing.
Definitely Jerri! A really amazing group of people, who are really passionate about photography and sharing knowledge! You get to know some folks, make some new friends, and it is a great way to find people to bounce ideas off of. I love to go to the competition nights and just look at the wide variety of images that the members create, and it inspires me to do more!
I have been to just 2 meetings, a new member and have learned so much more already. Exposure is
the best way to learn for me and I also met some great new people. Thank you
