PSRI member A.Cemal Ekin has worked with Festival Ballet Providence for a number of years. FBP commissioned a ballet, both dance and music, based on Cemal’s images of dried orchids. The ballet featured projection of Cemal’s images on a 20×30 foot screen above the stage. The result of that collaboration was ORCHIS which was performed in 2013 and 2014.
Now Cemal has spent the last 18 months with FBP dancer Vilia Putrius to photograph 12 FVP ballerinas off stage. Cemal photographed each of the dancers in costume and makeup, and in settings that reflect the feeling of the ballet the dancer represents. I’ve seem most of the images from these shoots and they are truly spectacular.
The images will be revealed 5 October 2014 at a special fundraising event at Festival Ballet Providence; an evening of wine, food, dance, and of course viewing the prints of Cemal’s images, which are available for purchase. All proceeds from the event benefit Festival Ballet Providence.
