Michael Milicia is a Massachusetts-based wildlife photographer who specializes in birds. He began his professional photography career in 2005 after working 27 years as a Software Engineer. In 2011, he started offering classes and workshops and became affiliated with Shoot The Light Instructional Photographic Workshops, which is owned and operated by Canon Explorer of Light Charles Glatzer.
Mike’s work has been featured in numerous juried art fairs and exhibits throughout New England, including the prestigious Paradise City Arts Festival. Eleven of his images have been selected for the North American Nature Photography Association’s annual showcases including a Top 10 image in 2012 and three of his images have been honored in the Audubon Magazine Photography Awards including a Top 3 placement in the Professional category. He has also garnered many “Image of the Week” honors on various online forums and was a finalist for Avian Image of the Year at birdphotographers.net.
Publication credits include National Geographic Magazine and Books, Audubon, Nature’s Best, National Wildlife Federation’s Big Backyard, NANPA Currents, Science et Vie Junior, Palm Press, and Woodmansterne Publications.
Mike’s passion for photography is rivaled only by his passion for teaching photography. His engineering background makes him especially adept at communicating complex subjects in a well organized, step by step manner that proves to be very effective for photography students at all levels.
