Hello PSRI!
As many of you may know the annual Multi-Screen competition is getting closer and closer! Before we get into the details of when, how and where, I bet there are more than a few of you that are thinking “Mike, just what the heck is a Multi-Screen competition?” Well, I am glad you asked!
Multi-Screen is a photo contest between 3 or more photography clubs. This year there will be 5 clubs competing! They are PSRI, Quinebaug Valley Photography Club, Northern Rhode Island Camera Club, Seven Hills Camera Club, and Fall River Camera Club. A location and date is selected (to be determined, so stay tuned), and 5 screens are set up with 5 projectors. One image from each competing club is then displayed for a given category. The judge(s) then vote on which image best represents the category. So not only should it be a good image technically, but also the additional factor of which image best represents the category. This is slightly different from the normal competitions that we hold where we are looking for what is considered the best image without any categories.
Thinking outside the box is encouraged! For example a lighthouse could be an actual working lighthouse on the ocean, or it could be a house with a light on it. Labor could be a cow giving birth, or a photo of a worker using a jack hammer to dig up a street! Surprise us with your vision and your creativity!
You can see an additional descriptions and some examples on the web site simply by click on this link (make sure to check out the power point presentation for the examples!):

So how do we compete in Multi-Screen? The club membership submits as many images, to as many categories as they would like. We will have two “pre-selection” nights where we will look at all of the images for a category at once, and we will choose which image we want to send. PSRI will be holding two pre-selection nights this year:
- Tuesday, Feb 26 (submit images by Tuesday, Feb 19)
- Tuesday March 19. (submit images by Tuesday, Mar 12)
These dates are right around the corner, so we really need you to focus (I know, I know a horrible pun but I just can’t help myself!) on submitting images. “So what are the categories, and how do I submit my images Mike?” you ask? You guys ask some great questions, so here we go.
Here are the categories, and please note the number for the category, as this is important when you submit your images!

The final step is to submit your images, and that is really simple. Here are the instructions! The file size needs to be less than 500k, and the max Height is 768, with a max Width of 1024. You will notice that these are the same “rules” as regular competition. Here is the naming convention that you need to use.
- Start with category number
- Then image number
- Then Category Name
- Then PSRI
- Then submitter Last, First name.

Notice that you can submit as many images to a single category as you would like, just make sure that you give each one a unique image number. Please submit images as early as possible so that the chairman has a chance to put all of the images into a slideshow for the pre-selection meeting. Simply send the images to the Multi-Screen chairperson, Lincoln Ross. Multiscreen has its own email address; multiscreen@psri.us. Please don’t include more than 5 images per email. And please take a moment to thank Lincoln for volunteering his time as this is a big job that he undertakes for the club!
Good luck PSRI, and Happy Shooting!
