PSRI Magazine Sale – Very limited time

MagCloud, the printer of the PSReye Focus Magazine is running very limited time sales with 50% off the production cost. The next one will start in less than 15 minutes and will run for 2 hours. To be exact, the 50% off sale will be between 7 am – 9 am Pacific time (10 am – 12 pm Eastern time) on July 20, 2010. The magazine is now available with perfect binding rather than saddle stitched; it will look more like Popular Photography or other magazines that has a spine. If you were waiting for a sale to get your copy, this is the time. I understand that after this sale there may be (may be) other 2-hour sale periods. New PSRI Membership System

I am pleased to announce that PSRI has a new membership registration and dues payment system. With this system in place, we will be able to give every member a login ID to the Web site and provide information accessible only by dues paying PSRI members. It is a straight forward process and you will find the details under the Membership menu option. Here is the summary:

The firs step is “Registration” without which you will not be able to login to see the dues payment page
The second step is to login
The third step (optional but we would very much like you to do it) is to update your profile
The fourth step is to visit the “Pay Dues” page which is only visible after logging in to the site
There, you can purchase the type of membership you want
For family membership, both members may register but only one needs to pay. We will manually adjust the second member’s record to give full access to the site
Memberships are valid for one year FROM THE DATE OF PAYMENT

There may be small snags, difficulties, or error messages. Please review the process and make sure you are following it accurately. Write to me if you need help.

Photoshop Lightroom 3 is Out

Adobe has released Lightroom 3 which is a major upgrade over version 2. It brings the same highly tuned RAW processing engine, a very capable noise reduction, the same lens correction filter that is in Photoshop CS5, and many more new features. Learn more about Lightroom 3 and download a 30 day free trial to see it first hand.

Upon start, Lightroom 3 wants to upgrade your older catalog. This may be a bit nerve wracking, but the program seems to make a copy of the LR 2 catalog leaving the old one intact. That said, I will suggest making a backup of your old catalog and previews if you want to be on the safe side.

Hunt’s Photo and Video is having its big weekend sale 7-8 May 2010, but prices are good until 3 PM on Monday 9 May. PSRI Lost a Friend

It is with great sadness I remind you of the death of Shing Tak Doo, Mary Doo’s husband, a kind and gentle man, a good man, a talented man. He will surely be missed. I send condolences to Mary, Jen and their family as well as to the entire PSRI community. Arrangement details are available in Providence Journal.

On this occasion, I would like to share with you the words of a Turkish poet, Cemal Sureyya, which seems very fitting to Shing and his untimely death.

I’m dying O Lord
That’s happening too
I know, all deaths are
