I understand there will be 10% discount on that item during the show. If you are interested, you may contact Hunt’s Providence or Melrose to take advantage of the sale. They are also giving freebies with ColorMunki and other color management hardware. The free item is a Mini Color Checker and Camera Profiling Software which is a reduced version of the Passport product.

I will be at Hunt’s Melrose store on November 6 and will make a presentation in one of their programs. Although I will make the same presentation at PSRI on November 16, anyone interested can sign up for it at Hunt’s Web site. The presentation is “Photoshop is a Girl’s Best Friend” which covers editing in Lightroom and Photoshop model and portrait photography.

<a

John Paul shared with us his approach to creativity, including writing, doodling, playing, and other tools. On his site he shares a wealth of information with anyone who cares to visit and subscribe to his newsletter. I have been a subscriber and very frequent visitor of JP’s site and in fact shared with our members a couple of techniques I learned from him on some of my presentations. You might have seen the small teaser on the sidebar “JPC”, now the full announcement. The noted fine art photographer, one of the Canon Explorers of Light, Epson master printer, X-Rite Coloratti, and accolades continues, will be visiting PSRI on October 5, 2010.

Johnathan Swift said “Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others”. Photography, good photography often requires seeing beyond the obvious and that requires developing a keen eye, a level of awareness that goes beyond mere looking. John Paul in his presentation, “Illuminating Creativity” will explore topics that will facilitate connecting with your inner feelings with your environment to see photographic possibilities that may escape a frustrated eye. John Paul runs workshops on the subject. Although we will hear only an abridged version in our limited session, the benefits will likely be long lasting. It will be a meeting you don’t want to miss. We will invite our sister clubs to participate in the presentation, so come early!

John is also a self-publisher using on demand printing technology, particularly at Blurb.com. I will purchase some of his books and bring them to the meeting for him to sign. I want to share his bookstore at Blurb in case you want to do the same. I have seen John’s original prints and would like to comment on the contemplative nature of his work both for him and for the viewer. Each photograph will reveal layers of delight and meaning as one gazes on them and repeated viewing will reward the viewer every time. This process is akin to the reverse of the art of vision I mentioned above, what he saw and made a part of his photograph gradually reveals itself in a series of layers. His vision is unique, his technique is totally transparent, exactly the way I like. His mastery of Photoshop earned him a place in Photoshop Hall of Fame, but his work never oozes out technique, this to me is the epitome of mastery of the technique.

Here is where you can view his books and purchase some if you like. I’m getting “Reflection” and “Correspondence”

How to Photograph Everyone

Fun and engaging, Blackmore has created a new program for those who wish to learn how to create great portraits of everyone.

Consistent results are at the heart of this new program with an emphasis on posting, lighting, composition, and expression. Working outdoors or in the studio Blackmore will show you how to harness the light and create beautiful images of men, women, children, families, brides, individuals, couples, and groups.

“Confidence is the key”, explains Blackmore. “I can help anyone gain a better understanding of what people like and don’t like in their portraits. We simply concentrate on a few simple thoughts each time we get behind our camera. Once we have the techniques memorized our hands can form unbreakable patterns allowing us to work from the heart.”

<img
