Good Source of Reading

I have accidentally stumbled upon a rich source of photographic resource online, and more about how I got there in a later post. While previewing a book online, I noticed a list of related content being displayed on the side and followed one. I arrived at a Web site called issuu.com (read it as issue, leave it to the Internet!) I started looking around, did a few quick searches and found that there are a large number of photographic books, magazines, portfolios, etc. at least for viewing online and many being available to download. Let me give you a few quick links, but also suggest that you type in your search phrase, photographer or author name, subject, and find out what else is available. Fair warning though, it may become a time sink!

and the list goes on. You will be surprised at the variety of subjects and the quality of available resources. Give it a try. Share your finds and comments here with others if you like.

Webinars

The Web is full of useful information and many of the photography equipment and software companies provide extensive programs as Webinars. One of our sponsors, X-Rite has a series of them coming in February, take a look at their programs and catch the ones that catch your interest.

PocketWizard has been a brand name associated with remote flash triggers. Their new series of devices are quite interesting indeed, compact to boot. Their Web site has a bunch of videos that inform the viewer about their line of products and how to use them. They also have a Webinar coming on February 7, 2012. If you are interested in remote triggering flash gear you may enjoy the presentation.

Thanks Mike DiStefano for bringing these to my attention.

American Photo Model Shoot Workshop

American Photo Model Shoot

I have received the following information from the Workshop Coordinator for American Photo Magazine. It sounds like a very promising event, all day long, 15 models, 10 stations, all the photos you can take with instructions. Read about the deep discount in members only page for this workshop.

On October 1st we will be in Boston MA, hosting the American Photo Model Shoot Series. I would like to extend a deep discount to you and your club for those who want to join us. We don’t want anything in return, we are just going to 10 cities across the country and are teaching from the beginner to expert photographers how to take better model photographs in one day. They are priced at $279 for each admission (see the information link above for PSRI discount information). The Model Shoots are always a huge hit.

We will have 15 models and about 10 stations on hand for a one day event. We are also doing this in NYC as well as other major cities.

Over Retouching Shunned in UK

UK Advertising Standards Authority banned an ad featuring Julia Roberts on the grounds that the photograph was “Over Photoshopped”. I have been writing about this “problem” encouraged by tacit approval of competition judges and unnecessarily used by photographers. It’s about time photographers shun this kind of technique-driven photography. Read more about it.

A Contest Winner

One of the two photographs I submitted to World Wide Gala Awards: Portraits & People was selected for inclusion in the upcoming book with the same title. Take a look at the post on my site. (Comments, if any, on my site please)

Photographing Children

Christina Beth made a very interesting presentation on photographing children this past Tuesday with many tips and tricks to deal with different aged subjects.  Her setup information, lenses and cameras to use, environment, all the way down to the thermostat setting (who would have thought!) were covered.
