Polaroid was (it’s a shame I even refer to the name in the past tense) one of the leading innovators in the photography field. Although most people may associate the name with its trademark instant photography that yielded millions of family snapshots and passport photographs, the company also produced extraordinary materials and equipment used by many major photographers; Ansel Adams, Paul Caponigro, Irving Penn pop in my mind in this context. Recently, a very large and rich Polaroid Collection of photographs have been auctioned by Sotheby’s with many examples of this medium as well as those that Polaroid Corporation collected for the sake of photographic art.
Gallery 4 at Tiverton Four Corners has an exhibit “The Art of Polaroid” featuring a collection of Polaroid photographs. The show will be on display July 31-September 6, 2010 at Gallery 4. Hours are Monday – Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM, Sunday 11 AM – 5 PM.
